Better Than Organics
New to the agriculture scene, the Better Than Organics farm hopes to lead the future of the farming industry through more sustainable and eco-friendly methods that yeild quality products. It is one of a handful of groundbreaking projects in the country that is attempting to change the way we use our limited resources to grow and develop our food. The ultimate goal is to create a community amongst farmers, markets and establishments to produce products that are better than organic.
Aquaponics
Similar to a symbiotic relationship, the process of aquaponics relies on two factors: (1) the cultivation of plants without soil and (2) the cultivation of fish. Through an integrated system using water as its base, the excreta that comes from the fish are used as nutrients to efficiently grow the plants. At its core, the benefit of an aquaponics system is more than just producing quality products, but also efficiently uses water, decreases the need for the addition of synthetic fertilizers, eliminates the need of agrochemicals for pests and diseases control, promotes independence from soil, simultaneously produces plants and aquatic organisms and overall produces low discharge of waste to the environment.
